Set
on the base of the Quantocks, The Blue Ball Inn at Triscombe offers the
discerning diner exceptional dishes in a beautiful rural setting. Five
years ago the coaching stables were converted into the current restaurant
by Patrick Groves and his brother, and so the pub/restaurant was thus
relocated across the way on December 4th 2001.
The less favoured conservatory from the old pub was also demolished, and
visitors who have not been for many years will perhaps be disoriented,
and note that two self contained ensuite letting rooms now occupy much
of the space from the former pub. The cellar had always been across
the road before the pub was moved and the beer was pumped across the road
Nearby
Triscombe Stone which is enroute from the Inn past the old quarry, marks
the junction of the old drovers road and the coaching road from Watchet
to Lyme Regis. The quarrying has long since ceased and the pub now reborn.
On the old coaching routes, Inns would often hang out a coloured
emblem for the coach drivers (who usually couldn't read or write) to follow,
hence The Blue Ball Inn may have been appropriately named.
